Club Spring Trip 2024:  12th - 14th April, Sneem, Co. Kerry

Walk Details:

Saturday April 13th

 A Walk – Knocknagantee/Knockmoyle (weather permitting)

Local guide Fergal Harrington will lead a walk in the Eagle Lough, Lough Coomacronia, Knocknagantee, Knockmoyle area, a few kilometres north of Sneem. About 6 hours and 800 metres of ascent. Fergal may change this plan if the weather isn`t favourable and do a lower-level walk to one of the coums in the area. Meet in Sneem at 9.15 (North Square (opposite O'Shea's pub). Bus will take us to the start of the walk.

 B Walk – Kerry Way

Irene will lead this walk along a section of the Kerry Way from Caherdaniel to Beale Woods, including a detour off the Way to visit the impressive Staigue Fort. About 17 kms and 5 to 6 hours on mountain paths, boreens, backroads. Less than 400 metres of ascent. Leaving at 9.45 from the North Square (opposite O`Shea`s pub) and drive to Beale Woods. We leave our cars here and get picked up by the bus which takes us to the start of the walk in Caherdaniel.

Sunday April 14th

B or C Walk

Mick will lead a walk on Sunday, the choice depending on the weather:

If the weather is inclement, we will do a local walk in the Sneem area – the Lomanagh Trail. About 10 kilometres and 3.5 hours on backroads, forest tracks and boggy meadows.

 If the weather is kind, hopefully we can do a walk close to our route home – the Paps, two iconic hills in the Derrysaggart Mountains located close to the junction of the R569 from Kenmare and the N22 Killarney-Cork Road. (About 50 kilometres and less than 1 hour from Sneem.) About 7.5 kilometres and 3.5 hours with about 500 metres of ascent.

We will make the final decision on Saturday, and if we do the Paps, have more details on how to get to the starting point of the walk, car pooling etc.
